Information
The Old Forge
The beautifully converted stone buildings once housed the blacksmith, wheelwright, carpenter and coachbuilder. There were haybarns and apple stores, and cider-making too. An upstairs courtroom and lock-up cell allowed miscreants to be tried by the travelling magistrates with those convicted being locked up and clapped in irons by the blacksmith all in one efficient operation.

We chose the Old Forge in Totnes because it looked like a quaint old building. The man who greeted us when we arrived was civil but was not a friendly character. Our room was pokey, with old and worn out decor, and noisey above the kitchen so woken at 7am. We left but still charged for 3 nights!
